So I had all my teeth pulled so I’m getting full dentures. I had my wax try-ins and they were absolutely gorgeous. I was wishing I could have them right then. When I went to get the finals, they were terrible and looked nothing like the wax try in. Just the tops are bad though. Very bulky and extremely gummy. A lot of gum showing. I feel like I got someone else’s set. I’m very lucky though because he said he would redo the top denture. I just have to go back a couple of phases. I’m a little discouraged though wondering if the same thing will happen again, where the wax part is beautiful but the finals are different, because those things are ugly that I have now. I was wondering if it’s possible that I got someone else’s dentures by mistake? They don’t put a name or initials on the dentures like some I’ve seen before. I think they may also send them out somewhere else to be done but not sure on that.

When you have a wax try-in and then the denture is made, the process goes like this: The wax try-in is encased in plaster, the wax is boiled out, and the wax is replaced with acrylic. So the only differences between the wax try-in and the final denture should be that the fit of the final denture will be much more precise, and the color of the base will be slightly different. You’re replacing the wax with acrylic that will be a slightly different color. The teeth will be the very same teeth that were in the try-in, and they should be in exactly the same positions.

If your case had gotten mixed up with someone else’s, the denture wouldn’t fit at all, so that wouldn’t be the case. It could be that something happened to the wax try-in on the way to the lab and maybe the technician had to re-set the teeth. I give credit to your dentist for re-doing it for you, and I wouldn’t worry about this happening again.
